Steel plate is a common term used in engineering and construction of heavy equipment, buildings, municipal utilities, and other structures that require a strong material. Steel plates are formed in various ways, including:
Hot-rolling: a process that consists of bringing the steel material to its recrystallization temperature, which is the point where the material becomes ductile and loses its rigidity. When enough heat is applied, the steel is passed through rollers that squeeze the steel into its flat shape.
Cold-rolling: another process for steel plate that is similar to hot-rolling without the need for heat. Cold-rolling reduces the risk of oxidation and stress on the steel compared to hot-rolling.
Steel plate has a much broader range of thicknesses than other materials like steel sheet. Steel plate is ideal for applications that require durability and a superior structural framework. Steel plate has high corrosion resistance and abrasion-resistance and can withstand immense stress from harsh environments. Along with superior structure, steel plate requires little to no maintenance and is easier to repair or replace if needed.
